Thank You

I'd like to extend my thanks to Post 178 for performing the grave side honour guard ceremony for my Father's funeral October 14th in St Joe. The active duty personnel men folding the flag brought a tear to the eye when presenting it to my Mother. And thank you everyone who expressed their sympathies to myself and family. Our country is truly blessed with many who have great respect for their fellow man.

In Memorium

Since I was unable to count on my memory to say all I wanted to say at Dad's service, I'd like to do that now:

In my mid-teens, I decided I was going to be nothing like my Father. Why would he suggest I quit business school one month before graduation? Was this because he grew up in a different era or was this a test? Why does he read corny jokes around the campfire? Why is he so concerned to call police and hospitals when my single brother, living in his own home, forgets to show up for lunch with Grandma? Why give an itinerary of vacation plans to all your children? What kind of reasoning brings him & Mom to my house when I'm ill for a couple of days...okay, I guess I did need the help. He tells the story of Mom wondering where the air went when a tire was flat...I don't care who you are...that's funny right there!

I peruse an old scrapbook his Mom had put together during his service years. I'm noting to myself that I am similar to him in several ways...and that ain't bad. A father who tests you on your resolve, jokes around so you don't take life too seriously and is always there even when you think you don't need him. I certainly know that he showed us God's Love in many ways.

My Dad looking like he's in a film noir detective movie

Marty "Cupcake" Manahan

November 7th, The Legion Riders said a sad Goodbye to our Chapter 86 Brother. 91 bikes escorted him to his resting place. We are still in shock that at age 50, a good friend could be taken to Heaven leaving us with the question...WHY? We will miss your infectious fun & laughter. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Meeting Highlights

In attendance: 4 Officers - 4 Members

At the present time, our post will be closing the doors at the end of the month. It will remain open so do not be afraid to continue supporting & having good food and drink there until then. Meetings are going to continue at the Army/Navy Club on Olladale Drive. Legion Riders are looking into holding their meetings at the Navy Club on Wells Street and are looking into the date for the next one sometime in January. Our member Rick Webb is in CCU, a result of his body's weakened state from chemo therapy for his 2 year cancer battle. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. His son Dave is getting together a benefit for December 11th - flier for the event is on extra curricular page.
